Biography


Dr. Andrey Kobyakov joined Corning in 2001 as Senior Research Scientist at the Photonics Research and Test Center in Somerset, NJ. Since then he held various technical and leadership positions in Corning R&D. In his current role as Program Director, Communications Research, Andrey is responsible for developing the Corning research strategy in telecommunications and managing Optical Communications research portfolio. Before joining Corning, Andrey was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Optics / CREOL, the University of Central Florida where he conducted research in nonlinear optics. Andrey’s areas of expertise include fiber-optic and wireless communications, transmission systems and networks, guided wave and nonlinear optics, plasmonics and silicon photonics as well as numerical modeling and simulation. Dr. Kobyakov has authored and co-authored over a hundred peer-reviewed articles and 6 book chapters and has been awarded 14 patents. Dr. Kobyakov has earned his Ph.D. in Optics (magna cum laude) from Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany, and MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Moscow Institute of Physics and
Technology.
